Completed in August 2013, this Telefónica Latin America operator profile is part of a Dataxis series of intelligence reports covering the Latin American broadband market. It analyzes the historical operational performance, network architecture and business strategy of the Spanish group for its fixed broadband operations in the region, where it was the second-largest player behind América Móvil by number of subscribers.
The focus of the report is on the five main markets targeted by Telefónica to build its Latin American fixed telecoms operations: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru.
The study includes historical subscriber data from 2007/8 to Q1-Q2 2013, obtained from a combination of quarterly and annual results released by Telefónica, as well as from estimations carried out by Dataxis.
The work has been divided into three chapters: the first one describing the global presence of the Telefónica group and the incidence of its Latin American fixed broadband operations; a second chapter offering detailed historical Latin American subscriber figures (split by country, by bandwidth and by network architecture); and a third section analyzing the company’s business strategy in the region in terms of pricing structure, advertised broadband/ultra-broadband speeds, dual/triple/quad-play bundling with additional telecommunication services and value-added broadband services.
The evolution of Telefónica’s share of total Internet lines in the region has also been surveyed, with data split by country and network architecture.
All financial figures cited in the report are expressed in United Sates Dollars (USD), in order to provide a unified regional criterion.
