This report is entitled “Pay TV in Central America, 2012-2018”, and was completed in July 2013. It analyzes the progress made by local and multinational cable, satellite and IPTV operators in developing subscription television services in the six largest Central American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.
The study includes detailed historical subscriber data for the 2008-2012 period, and subscriber forecasts until 2018.
The work has been divided into seven chapters: one for each of the six markets analyzed and a final section providing consolidated regional figures and our conclusions. For each of the countries surveyed, the report includes yearly figures tracking television household penetration, number of pay-TV subscribers, market share of main pay-TV operators and incidence of network distribution technologies – split by cable (analog and digital), DTH and IPTV platforms.
All subscription data included in the report reflects customers/households legally adopting pay-TV services, and it excludes unauthorized access and/or under-reported customers.
Historical figures (2008-2012) for number of HHs, TV HHs, pay-TV HHs, free-to-air HHs and pay-TV platforms were obtained from public sources. In those cases where data was not available, it was estimated by Dataxis. Forecasts for the 2013-2018 period were made in July 2013. All historical and forecasted figures are available in Dataxis’s Global Data Base.
