The Qatari mobile market has reached saturation and has even declined in volume in recent years to achieve around 145% penetration of population in 2020. Ooredoo and Vodafone are the two competitors of the market, and both launched commercial 5G services in 2019. The average revenue per user (ARPU) has slightly dropped due, among other reasons, to the gradual end of messaging (replaced by OTT such as WhatsApp).
