In 2020, Android TV fully entered in the agenda of operators in Latin America. Companies that concentrate 21% of pay TV subscribers in the region have already certified devices.
Until very recently, only a handful of companies in Latin America had implemented Android TV devices; basically as support for streaming services. According to Android TV Guide, there are now 14 companies with projects, 5 of them are in the top-15 of the subscribers ranking. At the moment, the most ambitious projects that are known in details are in Mexico. Izzi (Televisa) and Megacable seek to position themselves as an “entertainment hub” and the use of Android TV will be one of the key pieces. Izzi already offers them for its clients on FTTx, while Megacable announced the launch of a new platform in September.
