The US OTT streaming devices market is becoming increasingly competitive

The US streaming sticks market has been facing tremendous growth over the last two years. The number of actively connected streaming sticks has jumped from 70 million in June 2018 to nearly 100 million devices in use as of June 2020, following latest Dataxis research. Historically dominated by Amazon and Roku, the US streaming sticks market has become increasingly competitive, with the entrance of new players coming from the cable market: the Xfinity Flex device from Comcast and the Verizon Stream TV box for instance, and the launch of new devices from traditional actors such as Tivo. Moreover, the increasing competition in the SVOD and AVOD markets has led streaming actors and devices manufacturers to diversify their distributions deals to increase their reach: Tivo, which launched its new Tivo Stream 4k device in April, has been multiplying partnerships with regional US operators such as Wave, RCN and Grande Communication, offering aggressive promotions in stores with Walmart, while increasing the content offer through deals with SVOD and AVOD actors – Pluto TV on top of them.
