In the context of a telecom market dominated by the incumbent operator Swisscom, Salt and Sunrise, two of the biggest Swiss operators announced the creation of a joint open access fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) platform, Swiss Open Fiber. This new entity will collaborate with the only other wholesale fiber platform, SFN, which is aimed at bigger operators (including Salt and Sunrise), leaving room for the new venture to focus on local operators outside the densest urban areas. The news comes as FTTx continues to spread in Switzerland, with Swisscom's dominance eroding as SFN's wholesale offer gains ground.
