Moroccans now have access to the largest Netflix Library in MENA

As of January 2025, Morocco has become the country with the largest Netflix library in the MENA region, offering around 8,400 titles to local audiences.  The expansion of Netflix's library has been a trend across MENA recently, and it continued between December 2024 and January 2025 in all countries except in Algeria and the UAE. Algeria saw a slight dip of 0.5% in its catalogue size, while the UAE experienced a drop of 5.5%, losing around 400 titles. This lowers the depth of the catalogue offered in the UAE, which already counts among the smallest of Netflix in the region with Saudi Arabia, at 7,300 titles. Among the most significant growths, Iraq’s Netflix library saw a boost of 4.7% (approximately 400 new titles), while Morocco experienced a 8.6% growth, adding 700 new titles. This surge put Morocco’s offers as the largest in the region, surpassing its counterparts in terms of content volume. A closer look at Morocco’s catalogue shows that the majority of new additions are films, with 682 movies added, alongside 51 new seasons of series. In terms of genre, comedies and dramas dominate the new content, with 286 comedies and 297 dramas making up the bulk of the new titles. However, only 2% of these newly added titles were produced in at least one Arab country.  When it comes to MENA content, the percentage of titles produced in at least one MENA country (including Turkey) stands between 3.9% in the UAE and 4.9% in Egypt. Despite this growth in its content offer, Netflix faces stiff competition in the MENA region from established platforms such as Shahid, owned by MBC, Starz Play, OSN+, Amazon Prime Video, and TOD, each of which is battling for market share in the region.
