1 in 10 Fiction Series currently on Disney+ are acquired from European broadcasters

Based on unique Fiction Series titles available at the end of March 2026 on Disney+ across Western Europe Since last summer and up to recent weeks, Disney+ has multiplied content partnerships with European public and commercial broadcasters alike, showing clear signs that the group aims at localizing its catalogue in the region. With these successive deals, 1 in 10 Fiction Series currently available on Disney+ are titles acquired from European broadcasters. In July 2025, Disney+ first announced a deal with ITVX, the first of its kind for the global streamer. Both platforms were to host content from their partner in a dedicated content section, to benefit from the other’s reach and attract new audiences to their IPs. Since then, British show from ITV like the docudrama Mr Bates vs The Post Office, or the crime series Karen Pirie, have been made available to Disney+’s subscribers. In August, Disney+ announced a multi-year licensing agreement with ZDF Studios, bringing thousands of hours of German content to its platform. This included over 3000 episodes of long running show like the detective series SOKO or more recent titles like comedy series Merz gegen Merz. Soon after, a content agreement was announced with Atresmedia, bringing 300 hours of Spanish content to Disney+, among which the romantic drama La encrucijada and historical melodrama Sueños de libertad. Additional content deals were made with SIC in Portugal, first in August for a joint premiere of Vitória on Disney+, Opto and SIC. In January, Disney+ also integrated SIC’s show Esperança to its catalogue.  Last quarter, Disney+ secured content partnerships with two of Europe’s most prominent public broadcasters: RTVE in Spain and RAI in Italy. The former is going to bring mostly entertainment shows to the platform, using Disney+ as a VOD distribution window right after linear broadcast. Scripted series are also included in the deal, like the upcoming police series Rojo Sobre Blanco. The latter will expand the existing selection of Italian titles available on Disney+ with a selection of both scripted and entertainment shows. Some iconic RAI titles are already on the platform, among which Don Matteo, I bastardi di Pizzofalcone, and Il Commissario Ricciardi.  These deals are presented as strategic boosts for both parties. They aim at localizing Disney+’s content offer in key European markets. The vast majority of shows on Disney+ are still US productions (49% at Q1 2026), while this ratio is under one-third on Netflix. Partnering directly with European broadcasters and major production houses enables Disney+ to expand its catalogue of local titles significantly, without incurring substantial investment in new productions, while also leveraging the recognition of well-established content brands in their respective domestic markets.  Broadcasters are also getting the opportunity to reach audiences...
