Bringing light-speed connectivity to European homes
Discussion Topics
Fiber deployment in Europe had a significant impact on the overall continuum between network infrastructure, in-home broadband connectivity, and customer-premise equipment. European ISPs collectively provided access to fiber networks to 125 million households at the end of 2023, and are expected to pass 150 million subscriptions by 2025.
The vast and rapid pace of fiber rollout across the region has significantly reshaped the telco landscape. Recent M&A have reshuffled market positions among leading telco groups, while consolidation on the fiberco market will impact the way that resources are allocated to further network rollouts in the second half of the 2020s. A key challenge that remains moving forward will be converting premises passed to actual fiber customers to match local authorities’ gigabit society plans.
Meanwhile, ISPs and CPE manufacturers are working on bringing the next generation of gateways and home networking devices to European households, with multi-gig enabled LAN ports and Wi-Fi 7 at the forefront of their priorities.
In preparation for Next Giga Europe 2024, let’s dive into the hot topics of the European broadband industry, from network development all the way to in-home connectivity, to understand how the market will evolve this year and beyond.
- State of the fiber deployment and multi-gig network rollout in Europe
- How acquisitions and consolidations are reshaping the European broadband landscape
- From homes passed to homes connected: converting consumers to fiber plans
- Next-gen in-home broadband equipment: multi-gig enabled gateways and advanced Wi-Fi entering European homes
