More than 7 in 10 broadband gateways deployed globally last year were on fiber networks. It is the hegemonic technology for new home connectivity equipment, and it will drive growth in this market with a +2% CAGR projected in volume globally by 2028. Some markets are showing slower growth or even deceleration of equipment renewals as their fiber take-up reaches maturation. 35% of all new fiber gateways in 2024 were deployed in China, representing only 20% of the market in value. The decreasing needs in this key market are already pushing Chinese vendors to address other territories. Brazil is the third largest market in volume for FTTx gateways but Latin America as a whole will see lower deployment numbers in the coming years as the region is already one of the most fiberized globally. Highest growth perspectives are found in countries that are set to significantly improve fiber take-up in the mid-term. In APAC (excl China), India, Pakistan and Indonesia drive most of the growth thanks to the fast-paced adoption of fiber services. In Europe, three markets will experience a double-digit yearly growth in fiber gateway deployments by 2028: Germany (+20% CAGR), the UK (+12%) and Italy (+11%). Key actors on those markets will be among the largest buyers in the second half of the 2020s (United Internet, Vodafone, Virgin Media O2, TIM, Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, BT). Middle-Eastern and African markets are the fastest-growing with a projected 11% CAGR in volume in the next 3 years. But this market’s size remains limited and only accounts for 5.5% of global deployments of fiber CPE in 2025.
